Dear
Amro,
As
we are drawing closer to another successful year
for AAAEA, we are once again reaching to our
members for their continuing support. We are
asking our members to renew their memberships and
to volunteer their time and efforts to the many
programs and activities that became the
identifying marks for our association. Some of our
great programs that we completed successfully this
year includes ACT classes, EIT classes that were
videotaped for our future young engineers, the
many educational seminars, as well as the many
entertainment events we had such as the picnics
and the annual Hafla, golf outing, and camping
trip.
I mention these many programs in the
hope that we get more volunteers to help out in
the events in setting up the events and running
them. As you may know, it takes a lot of time to
plan such events, and the more people we have to
help, the easier and more enjoyable the events
become.
So please, contact the board and
offer your time and effort. A little help will go
a long way.
The summer is upon us, and with
that, our outdoor activities are in full swing of
being planned. Please read the remaining on the
newsletter to see what is coming up. Please visit
our calendar at our website at www.aaaea.org to
see a full list of the events.
Please remember, our elections are
coming up soon, so please renew your membership
and come to vote on the next board members. A
general meeting and lunch will be
served.
See you at the next
event,
Nabeel Aldrees,
PE AAAEA Vice

Interview With Basman
Dahleh
1-Please introduce yourself.
My name is Basman Dahleh, I am married to
Shinnarah and we have 3 children. After finishing high school
in Chicago's southside, I attended to U of I in Urbana and
finished a BS and MS in electrical engineering. My graduate
coursework and thesis focused on electromagnetics, rf and
antennas. In January of 1994 I started my first job as an rf
design engineer for Motorola. I am still there 15 years later
where I have worked on several products from cellular base
stations, to cellular handsets and wireless broadband
equipment. 2-How long
have you been connected with AAAEA?
I have been active with AAAEA for about 5 years
now.
3-How do you value the services of
AAAEA to our members and to our community? I
find all of AAAEA's services valuable, from the social to the
educational, and sometimes just the informal comradry and
mentoring that takes place between the members. The service
from which I derive the greatest pleasure however is
particpating in tutoring the young students of the community.
I learn so much from them.
4-You have
contributed to the association through volunteering to help
kids and the community by volunteering for the ACT and
traveling to Champaign. Can you describe your
experience? Tutoring is a treat for
me. There are always exceptional students, free thinkers, in
these sessions and they are inspiring. Encouraging young
students to continually expand their tool sets and approaches
to problem sovling is quite rewarding. I always enjoy being
back on U of I's campus and meeting with students, but I must
say I really enjoyed my time with the guys ... the car ride
down to Urbana, co-running the joint session, dinner and the
fun ride back :)
5-How can we get more
members involved, and how important the student chapters to
this association? Membership is always a
challenge. I think that most people get really excited about
giving back to the community but don't always know how to go
about getting involved. There are a few of our members who are
always active giving people like myself channels to give back.
We, myself first, need to get more active in presenting the
opportunities to
others. |

Kotulka Infinite Load Path?
By Erik Nelson, RE., SE., and
Brandon Kotulka, RE.Have you ever framed out an opening with steel, and
found a situation that seemed to dey common structural
principles? This happened to us recently, and it wasn't the
first time. We thought it worthy of an article, as peculiar
framing like this can occur and sometimes is carried through
construction documents and gets built! It may not be apparent

AAAEA Event Review - EIT/FE Review
Classes
Last week concluded the spring 2009 AAAEA
EIT/FE Review Classes. This year the classes were held at the
Illinois Institute of Technology campus in Chicago. As always,
the class was open to both Arabs and non-Arabs and included
engineers and students from multiple engineering disciplines.
The classes consist of 15 lectures with specialized professors
and professionals who taught each individual topic covered on
the FE Exam. The course was designed to help both students and
professionals alike prepare for the April 2009 FE Exam. We
thank all the professionals and professors who contributed
their time and efforts, and all the other persons, who made
this program possible:

future attendees of the classes to utilize in preparation for
the exam. We also thank Dr. Mousa Issa (Education
